ASDA are interested in building a store in Helensburgh
ASDA has its sights set on building a new supermarket in Helensburgh.
The supermarket chain have showed interest in building on the pierhead land and at the former Hermitage Academy site.
The new store could sell food, clothing and other merchandise but the supermarket chain will consult with local people to find out the type of store they would like to see in the town.
Councillor Vivien Dance told the Helensburgh Advertiser: "The fact that Argyll and Bute Council is to invest £6.6 million in regenerating the town centre and expanding over the next 18 months is now proving to be the catalyst that we expected the CHORD project to be.
"We will have to wait and see which site ASDA selects after consultation with residents but it is fair to say that we are now in interesting times for the town."
Waitrose also plan to build a supermarket and petrol station in the town and have submitted plans to build opposite the new Hermitage Academy.
